Chocolate Sourdough Bread Pudding

Give your stale chocolate sourdough bread new life with this banger of a dessert!

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups (stale-ish) Chocloate Sourdough Bread cubed like large croutons
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups Milk whole milk is best to make rich flavor of custard
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocao powder
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon optional – sub nutmeg, too
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips sub: peanut butter, dark chooclate, white chocoalye, carmel chips..
  • topping of choice caramel sauce, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, vanilla ice cream (ok, Im drooling now)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees, spray oil or grease casserole pan
  • In a medium sized bowl, make the custard by whisking together the eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon/nutmeg, cocoa, and salt until well combined.
  • Place chopped bread in the custard bowl – Let sit for 10 minutes to absorb all the of the goo.
  • Pour mixture into your greased pan and then sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly. pour (cooled) melted butter over the top.
  • Cover baking dish with foil and bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove foil and conintue to bake for another 15 minutes until the custard is set.
  • Sourdough bread pudding is best served warm. If desired, serve with some of the above suggestions.
